Mémoire au monde
14 October to 16 November 2019 – Teodora Galerie
Artist : Sébastien Mehal
Sébastien Mehal wishes to propose an architectural work on the grouping of buildings in urban areas in peripheral zones. The original colours he uses are the colours of exile and of the history of each of his exiles, of these singular journeys. As a surveyor of the urban world, the artist plays with crossbreeding as well as with borders, which he pushes and displaces in his works to the limits of abstraction.
Sébastien Mehal’s works are characterised by a minimalist aesthetic and mature in the viewer’s eyes. The artist’s work is also based on city plans seen from above, inspired by models of architectural projects. Industrial materials: aluminium, building structures, LED lighting are omnipresent in his creations. Sebastien Mehal also likes to appropriate the public space with large sculptures made of noble industrial materials: synthetic resins, black marble from Belgium, bronze.
Sébastien Mehal’s work can be found at major contemporary art fairs (FIAC, Art Fair SCOPE and Art Fair Untitled Basel USA, Art Paris), in FRACs and art centres as well as in some national museums such as the MuseumsQuartier “Wien”. Her work is also supported by various art foundations.
Hanna Ouaziz is involved with real estate actors in the rehabilitation of vacant places within the framework of a transitional urbanism. She brings back to life Friedrich Hölderlin’s notion of “Poetic Habitat of the World” (at the origin of her agency called H art). For the FIAC 2019, from 14 October to 16 November, she has chosen to give carte blanche to the artist Sébastien Mehal and to Anna Sansom, art journalist, co-curator of the exhibition.
