Substances
From 16 January to 07 March 2020 – Teodora Galerie, Paris 8ème
Substances opens this new year by inviting us on a sensory journey to the heart of matter and our idea of reality.
Téodora Galerie has decided, once again, to play on the crossbreeding by inviting 19 artists with their own singular approaches feeding the same fascination for the material and a desire to create new plastic stories.
These stories are all human constructions in which the references are multiple, at the crossroads of several disciplines, whether scientific, historical or esoteric. They participate in a rewriting of our imagination by navigating through time and cultures. The artists, through their gestures, take us to the origins of territories, the world, or even our consciousness.
The “Substances” cycle of events welcomes sculptors, photographers and painters to help us experience and discover matter and its transformations through a new programme of encounters and experiences.
The event cycle “SUBSTANCES” takes us to the heart of matter and its representations. Matter, both literally and figuratively, plays on our ability to understand the meaning of its deformations. The work of art is transformed and reveals its capacity to reinvent our reading of reality, of the earth as well as the cosmos.
From the abstract to the figurative, substances become, in turn, liquid, gaseous or solid. A new look is taken at the elements and the states we know them in.
The cycle of events “SUBSTANCES” continues around the fascinating material of gold, which is honoured in all its facets in this second part of the exhibition. Working with gold leaf, painting oriental fabrics, the artists tell us the stories of more than 3000 years of history before our era: travelling in ancient Egypt, passing through the silk road where precious stones and gold ingots crossed the seas.
We will follow the Byzantine travels of Tristan Rà, not forgetting the sacred paintings of Jacques Savino or the anachronistic and powerful works of Léo Caillard.
The Substances cycle closes with a journey into our consciousnesses and interiors. Les yeux fermés invites the visitor to rediscover his own psyche and emotions as matter: a journey into our souls and dreams that have become living matter.
The duo Neon minuit will present an immersive digital installation called La matière des souvenirs, a sensitive experience for young and old.
Work with us or just say hello, we’d love to talk to you.
